The beautiful Trent Building within the grounds of the main university campus was the setting for the MILD 2019 event.
This exciting event was organised by Natalie Stevenson, Lucy Howard and Dr Fasihul Khan from the ILD team of the University of Nottingham NIHR Respiratory Biomedical Research Centre team and led by Professor Gisli Jenkins.
Despite regional flooding nearly 100 delegates attended the event which was aimed at all health care professionals with an interest in ILD as well as principle investigators and researchers taking part in the University of Nottingham’s INJUSTIS (It’s Not JUST Idiopathic FibrosiS) multi-centre study.
Teams travelled from all over the country, coming from as far north as Northumbria and as far south as Exeter and Kent. Inspirational talks were given from world leading speakers including international guests Prof Eric White (Ann Arbour, USA) and Dr Leticia Kawano-Dourado (Sao Paulo, Brazil), as well as regional experts including Professor Bibek Gooptu (University of Leicester), Geraldine Burge and Dr Richard Thompson (Birmingham) and Dr John Hutchinson (Mansfield) and Professor Gisli Jenkins (Nottingham). The talks covered key areas including epidemiology, pathology and biomarkers of pulmonary fibrosis, as well as none-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments of pulmonary fibrosis.
It was a fantastic event full of networking opportunities and the chance to hear the latest in ILD research and to share best practice and for a brief time there was so much interest associated with #MILD2019 it was even trending on the twittersphere.
We hope to offer the event again here in Nottingham in the future.
